Build a larger tabletop training setup with this scaled-up DIY PVC adaptation of our original 1:6 Arizona Vortex-style model.

This digital package provides the printable main components and accessories. You supply the PVC pipe, fittings, and metal hardware, allowing you to choose leg lengths to suit your training space.

Our pictured build measures approximately 42 inches tall × 32 inches wide (1,067 × 813 mm). Finished dimensions vary with pipe lengths, fittings, and configuration.

Required PVC Sizes

The supplied components are designed specifically for standard Schedule 40 PVC:

Component Required pipe fit
Blue A-frame head ½-inch PVC passes through the head sockets
Orange gin-pole head ½-inch PVC passes through its socket
Foot adapters Insert inside ¾-inch PVC lower legs
Omni-Pod collars Fit around the outside of ¾-inch PVC

These pipe sizes are required for the supplied files to fit. Sizes are nominal plumbing sizes, not measured outside diameters. Do not substitute CTS CPVC.

Build Your Own Legs

Print the components, then assemble your legs using the specified pipe sizes and compatible fittings. Our pictured build uses two 14-inch sections of ¾-inch PVC per leg, connected with threaded plumbing fittings, and one 7 ⅜-inch section of ½-inch PVC upper section per leg.

You can choose different pipe lengths. This is a scaled-up adaptation of our original model, not a complete model at one fixed scale.

Dry-fit your assembly before drilling. Check pipe seating, pin alignment, and clearance as the orange head pivots. Pipe projecting above the blue head must remain clear of the other pipes and moving components. Upper-pipe cut lengths depend on your fittings and desired projection.

Printable Pins & Metal Alternatives

Printable retaining pins are included. You may instead use suitable metal bolts or retaining pins:

Connection Metal diameter Quantity
Head to PVC pipe 4 mm / M4 3
Feet to PVC pipe 4 mm / M4 3
Blue-to-orange head hinges 5 mm / M5 2

For metal bolts, M4 × 35 mm and M5 × 45 mm are suggested starting lengths. Verify fit with your chosen washers and nuts. Hinge fasteners must allow the orange head to pivot freely.

Ball-and-Socket Foot Hardware

Metal hardware is required to secure the ball-and-socket retaining clips:

  • 4 bolts and 4 nuts per foot
  • 12 bolts and 12 nuts for three feet
  • Suggested hardware: M4 × 30 mm button-head bolts with matching M4 nuts
  • Nylock nuts are optional

Check the first assembled foot for secure ball retention and free movement. These fasteners are separate from the pins that attach the feet to the PVC.

Printable Drilling Jigs

Drilling jig files are included to help locate and align the retaining-pin holes in the ½-inch and ¾-inch PVC.

Use an 11/64-inch drill bit for the PVC pin holes. Secure the pipe and jig, test on scrap first, and verify the actual pin fit before drilling your final pieces.
