Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bight Size Rope Rescue?

Bight Size Rope Rescue is owned and operated by a full-time firefighter. We bring rope rescue training to the tabletop with miniature rigging systems and 3D-printable training props designed for hands-on practice.

We believe in the motto, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” Getting regular reps with full-size rescue equipment isn’t always practical, so we created a way to keep rigging concepts fresh at the kitchen table, around the firehouse, or during training discussions with your crew. Our kits help you explore setups and practice assembly sequences between full-size training sessions.

What can I practice with a tabletop kit?

Our 1/6-scale kit mirrors the assembly and setup of a full-size Arizona Vortex, bringing hands-on practice to your tabletop. Explore rigging configurations, practice setup sequences, discuss connection points, and work through scenarios with your crew. It’s a practical way to get more reps in and keep concepts fresh between full-size training sessions.

Does tabletop practice replace training with real equipment?

No. Our models supplement instruction and hands-on training with full-size equipment. They help you get more reps in when breaking out the real system isn’t practical.

Can these parts support a person or be used for an actual rescue?

No. All miniature rigging parts are tabletop training props only. They are not life-safety equipment and must never be used to support people, animals, or rescue loads.

Are these digital files or physical products?

Both! Check the individual listing before purchasing. Listings marked digital download contain files for you to 3D print; no physical items will be shipped. Any physical-product listing will clearly identify what you receive.

Can I sell prints made from your files or share the files?

No. Files are for personal use only. Sharing, redistributing, or reselling the files is prohibited. Purchase does not include a commercial-use license or permission to sell printed products made from the files.

What comes with the Vortex file set?

The file set includes printable parts for:

  • Blue A-frame and orange rear-head assemblies
  • Three adjustable legs with threaded joiners
  • Three flat ball-joint feet with sockets and retaining clips
  • Rigging plates and connection pins
  • Single and Double Easy Snap Swivel Pulleys
  • Carabiners and hobbles
  • Table-edge clamps and printed thumb screws
  • Rigging collars and alternative raptor feet
  • A compact rescue litter and rescue dummy
  • An alternate flat-print inner-leg option

See the listing for the complete package contents and included documentation.

What do I need to print and assemble my kit?

You’ll need a compatible 3D printer, slicing software, filament, and the hardware and rope/paracord specified in the assembly guide. Printed pins and thumb screws are included as printable parts, but some connections require metal fasteners.

Are the files ready to use, and can I use another brand of printer?

Yes! The Vortex files come in 3MF format with organized, color-coded plates, print orientations, and supports already set up in Bambu Studio.

The 3MF format can also be opened in other compatible slicers, allowing use with different printer brands. However, plate layouts, colors, and support settings may transfer differently between platforms. Before printing, select your printer and filament profiles and confirm that the imported settings suit your setup.

What filament should I use?

Follow the recommendations supplied with each file. PETG is preferred for flexible moving parts such as carabiner gates. Material choice and print settings affect fit, flexibility, and durability.

What size cord should I use?

The miniature system is intended primarily for approximately 4 mm paracord. Pulley fit varies by design and print settings. Larger cord may not fit or move freely through every component.

Will the miniature pulleys and carabiners move?

The designs include moving features for tabletop practice, such as rotating pulley wheels, swivel eyes, and manually operated carabiner gates. Clear moving parts carefully after printing and follow the assembly instructions.

Can I change the size of the models?

Scaling can change pin holes, hardware fit, clearances, and moving connections. For an initial print, use the supplied scale. If you resize a pulley, scale all its matching printed components together and reassess the hardware.

A part is tight, loose, or won’t move. What should I do?

Check the assembly guide, print orientation, material, and settings first. Remove supports, strings, or loose debris carefully. Avoid forcing a joint or gate. If you need help, contact us with the file name, printer, filament, settings, and clear photos of the issue.

Is Bight Size affiliated with the manufacturers of full-size rescue equipment?

Bight Size Rope Rescue is an independent brand. References to full-size equipment help describe the training concepts our miniature models represent; they do not imply manufacturer endorsement or certification.
